Basic Life Support (BLS)

Prerequisites:  None - course is open to all.

Class duration: Up to 2.5 hours.

Audience:  Basic Life Support (BLS) is designed to provide education to a wide variety of healthcare students, medical professionals, EMS, and other personnel working in healthcare occupations.    

What is covered:  The ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and  relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner are the main highlights of the curriculum. 

Written Exam: The BLS written test is administered online through eLearning.heart.org, and a specific keycode link will be provided to each student after successful completion of the hands-on part of the course. There are 2 attempts allowed to score 84% or better to pass the final assessment. It is open-book and not time-limited.

Completion card:  The BLS Provider eCard is issued when the student completes the examination online and completes the required survey. The eCard will be issued as soon as the certificate is validated by the next business day or sooner. The BLS eCard is valid for two years.
